DamoTalks episode 3 :Interview with Aleksander co-founder of Axie Infinity

After several years of persistence, AXIE Infinity game is gradually getting hot in the chain game circle. It is a digital pet game built on the ethereum blockchain, and the trading volume of the game NFT on the platform is currently at the top of the market.

Two weeks ago, Token Damo “Axie Infinity” was translated into Chinese, but it is not ready to become mainstream yet also wrote a brief research article.

Damo research: blockchain first active game Axie Infinity (AXS) online coinan

After the article was released, many partners in the community wanted to further understand the AXIE Infinity project.

For this reason, we invited Aleksander, the COO of AXIE Infinity, to share with the Token Damo community in conjunction with AEX Anbank, Black Diamond Wallet and Safeco Escrow.

Aleksander is a veteran in the gaming space. Before Axie Infinity, he worked as a manager in Norway, creating content and playing competitive games in his spare time. He was one of the top 200 players in Europe in Warcraft 2, and represented the Norwegian national team in Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 2.

Here is the full AMA

Q1 question:Aleksander, as a veteran traditional gamer, when did you first become interested in Chain Game? What are the qualities of Chain Game that attracted you? And what made you choose to join the Axie Infinity project team?

Aleksander: My background is in eSports, and I have always loved competitions. However, in traditional games, it’s very difficult for the average player to actually make money. The money always goes to the 0.0001%. In the game and earning economy, more people can make money if done correctly.

I also really like the idea of actually owning my gaming assets and keeping them forever. A lot of my gaming history has been lost, but when items and game characters are stored as NFTs, I can keep them around even if the game goes down. It’s part of my digital identity, and that’s important.

When I met the other founders of Axie Infinity playing CryptoKitties in late 2017, it was an instant match. We both believed in the same vision and set out to build an amazing game.

Q2:Now that Axie Infinity has successfully launched on Coin and AEX Anbank, can you give us a brief introduction to Axie Infinity? Can you give us a brief introduction of Axie Infinity and the current development status of the project?

Aleksander: Axie Infinity is a digital pet battle adventure game where players earn money to play and govern the game universe together. Powered by Ethereum, Axie Infinity ushers in a new era for gamers where they can own, trade and profit from their hard-earned game assets like never before. Collecting, breeding, fighting and trading, Axie Infinity makes grinding for glory both fun and rewarding!

Q3:Let the whole industry realize the value of the chain tour is the introduction of crypto cat NFT tokens in 2017. For more than 3 years, we have seen frequent changes in the chain tour field, and many projects have disappeared in the market. What do you think the Axie Infinity team has done right?

Aleksander: We have been focused on consistently building and taking care of our community from the very beginning. We believe in creating a sustainable economy and think that’s one of the key aspects of the blockchain game. If you just keep making items and selling them, everything will be worthless at the end of the day. Everything has to expand as the user base expands.

Things also take a lot longer to happen than expected, and many projects go bankrupt due to poor financial planning.

Q4:What is the overall project financing situation as of now? You can give details in terms of both equity financing and token financing. Also, can you tell us about the financial expenses of the project? For example, what are the expenses around R&D, marketing, operations, etc., and what are the sources of profitable income?

Aleksander: We are well funded and can support several years of development! We have raised $1.5 million in equity financing in mid-2019 and have also received over $2.6 million in revenue from Axie Infinity itself. And that’s not counting the binance launchpad token sales.

To date, we’ve spent almost nothing on marketing; the game has grown through word of mouth. When players can make money on something, they tell their friends, so there’s no need to spend money on marketing.

We made over $150,000 last month, which is amazing considering we only had about $70,000 in expenses.

Q5:In terms of token allocation, community players note that the team accounts for 21%, advisors account for 7%, private investors account for 4%, players account for 20%, pledger rewards account for 29%, ecological funds account for 8%, and coinlaunchpad accounts for 11%. Why adopt such a token allocation scheme? The main contributor of game value players only accounted for 20%?

Aleksander: 17% of the team allocation is locked in for a few years and will be pledged to ensure we are committed to building out Axie Infinity.

Players can earn AXS dollars both by playing the game and by betting on it. We see this as a huge opportunity and a great incentive for players to start playing the game. In addition, pledgers who play the game will receive a higher weekly pledge bonus than if they don’t play the game. This is more of an incentive for players than anyone else. The ecosystem fund will be used to grow the game, so we are not keeping this for ourselves.

Q6:For a better gaming experience, according to the roadmap, Axie Infinity will next migrate gaming assets such as lands and items to the Ronin sidechain. what are the technical advantages of the Ronin sidechain? Also, will this affect the interaction of game assets with other DEFI tools?

Aleksander: In order for Axie Infinity to reach out to our second, third and fourth degree relationships (our friends and family of friends and family), Axie needed a long-term solution that would make participation in Axie’s games and economy fast, cheap and seamless. We need to make it fun and easy.

Ronin will have.

Fast and seamless transactions with almost instant confirmation.

Significantly lower gas fees. In addition, gas fees can be retained by the community and used for things like tournaments and bounties, rather than paying Ethereum miners.

Ability to withdraw Axie assets to Ethereum Mainnet (eventually).

Simplified login process for new users with a customized wallet solution.

Block browser for transparency and data accessibility.

We also have the possibility to add support for DeFi tools in the future, but this is not a priority and can be addressed initially through a bridge to Ethereum.

Q7:Axie Infinity’s community users have also produced a lot of highly creative work, and we appear to see a grand gaming ecosystem kingdom from the whitepaper. How do you govern the blockchain gaming community? How is it different from the general blockchain community governance?

Aleksander: Our users are so passionate that some of them even have Axie Infinity tattoos! We believe this is because they truly own Axies and bring a stronger emotional connection. We believe it’s because they truly own their Axie and bring a stronger emotional connection. It’s like a snapshot in time when you’re very active in the Axie community.

It’s also just because the rarest Axies aren’t overstuffed.

Q8:According to the roadmap, building the AXS ecosystem starts in 2021. Can you describe the plan for the eventual AXS ecosystem build? And what the whole game ecosystem will eventually develop into?

Aleksander: Axie Infinity Shards are the ERC 20 governance tokens of the Axie universe. Holders will shape the future of Axie Infinity by demonstrating their support for ecosystem upgrades and directing the use of the community vault.

AXS will be used to

Pledge

Players will be able to lock their tokens to receive newly created AXS. pledgers will also be required to vote and play to receive rewards.

Payment Methods

AXS will be accepted as currency in the Axie NFT marketplace. AXS can also be used to determine eligibility to participate in certain sales/auctions conducted by the Axie team.

Governance

In early 2021, a community vault will go live and begin collecting revenue generated by Axie Infinity as well as a portion of the pledge rewards. This vault will be managed by AXS bettors once the network becomes sufficiently decentralized.

Q9:Aristotle once said: game is a rest and pastime after toil, an act that does not carry any purpose in itself. At present, many chain games add many financial attributes, so that many players come not only for fun, but also for money. What kind of impact does that have on a chain game project?

Aleksander: I don’t know if it has anything to do with blockchain. It’s more about the motivation of the players. Why they would actually do something.

We see Axie Infinity as more than just a game. It’s a social place, a community. People get together to play games and “work” together. Some people buy AXIE because they get external motivation by making money, like those who are poor. And some people spend a lot of money on expensive Axies, but may not have a lot of immediate ROI.

We believe that this is due to intrinsic motivation. They recognize that something unique is happening and take pride in owning some of the most expensive Axies.

Q 10:Axie Infinity was first created in 2017, when there was a general lack of market awareness of blockchain gaming. After nearly 3 years of development, what stage do you think the whole chain game market has reached now? How long does it take before it explodes on a large scale?

Aleksander: I think we are just starting to see the early days of real blockchain gaming and the impact it will have on humanity as a whole. I expect that all games will have features that allow players to own some game items and keep them in their wallets. Maybe not in the way we have in Axie, but some sort of “proof of play”.

When it comes to mainstream, I think there are still some issues to work out, like infrastructure, login usage, UI/UX. We’re getting close in Axie and seeing the effectiveness of tokens as a growth mechanism, but it’s still too early to tell.

The game needs to get more interesting before we’re ready to really go mainstream.

Finally there’s the question of interest. Can we offer a FUN game that is easier to play with more benefits than traditional games. If so, we’ll be the breakout game and everyone will know about Axie Infinity.

Here are Aleksander’s answers to questions from community users

Q1: Did you consider the community’s feedback and needs during the development of AXS? How do you assess the long-term market for AXS to be positive? What difficulties did you encounter during this time? What proactive steps were taken?

Aleksander: We worked with a team of professionals from Delphi Digital to design the $AXS token. It takes into account all the different stakeholders and merges them together so that everyone is moving in the same direction.

Holding AXS assets and building a long-term sustainable economy is key.

The company is called Delphi Digital, and they bought a lot of expensive Axies because they were very bullish on the game.

Q2:How do you assess the long-term market for AXS to be positive?

Aleksander: The $AXS value is directly related to the success of Axie Infinity. Since all the revenue goes into a community pool, everyone is incentivized to work together to spread the word about Axie. if they hold $AXS, all the money they spend will come back to them.

That’s the power of the crypto economy — everyone can get involved, just like what’s happening with Bitcoin.

Q3:What difficulties did you encounter during this time?

Aleksander: The team went through a lot of tough times, especially at the end of 2018 when the cryptocurrency bear market was tough. Many of our competitors had to close their operations, but we managed to survive because we had a strong community from the beginning.

It was an important learning experience and the team is stronger as a result. For us, it’s all about how hard you work and how committed you are to the long-term vision.

We believe NFT Games can change the world.

Here are Aleksander’s answers to questions from community users

Q1: Did you consider the community’s feedback and needs during the development of AXS? How do you assess the long-term market for AXS to be positive? What difficulties did you encounter during this time? What proactive steps were taken?

Q2:How do you assess the long-term market for AXS to be positive?

It was an important learning experience and the team is stronger as a result. For us, it’s all about how hard you work and how committed you are to the long-term vision.

We believe NFT Games can change the world.

Q4:What positive steps have been taken?

Aleksander: We don’t spend money on things that don’t work. Only those things that are important for the product to become better.

Q5:What does Axie Infinity think about the recent frequent hacks in our cryptocurrency world and does Axie Infinity have its own insurance and guarantee that it can prevent its platform from being hacked?Does the ethereum sidechain used by AXIE affect security issues?

Aleksander: Security is one of our main concerns. When it comes to company funding, we have everything in a multi-signature cold wallet to ensure that no single point of failure. Our smart contracts are vetted by a professional company (Quantstamp)

Does Axie Infinity have its own insurance and guarantees to prevent its platform from being hacked?

Aleksander: So far we have been running for almost 3 years without being hacked, so the platform has been pretty battle tested. We don’t have any guarantees that we won’t be hacked in the future — I don’t think anyone can guarantee that. When it comes to insurance, we keep our funds separate to minimize risk, so we don’t spend money on insurance.

Q6:Does the eth sidechain used by axie cause security issues?

Aleksander: This is a good and important question.

There will always be trade-offs and our sidechain will not be as secure as ethereum — it’s almost impossible.

However, we believe that with our very good and big partners we can make sure that the Ronin sidechain is in a good enough way during the PoA phase.

For us this is acceptable because if the game is to grow to the extent we need it to, we need to provide a great user experience.

The ultimate goal is to make Ronin sufficiently decentralized so that anyone can join as a verifier. But having said that, the benefits of Ether and Bitcoin (which are truly immutable) are impossible to replicate, and there is no need for a game like Axie.

Those with the most expensive assets can always use bridging on Ether to protect them if they want.

Q7:China’s traditional gaming industry has always shown a “one super” pattern led by Tencent, so what are Axie Infinity’s main competitors in the blockchain gaming space?

Aleksander: Our ultimate goal is to become a virtual world, so we already have some competitors in this field, such as Sandbox and Decentraland.

But our strategy is different.

They rely on other game companies to produce content in their own virtual worlds to attract users.

80c6f668ae4892e15bc681e289305cf4.png

We believe in the Fortnite approach where the game comes first and then you turn the player into an inhabitant of the virtual world. Just like in Fortnite, there are now tons of concerts and events.

Axie Infinity is not just a game, it’s a social place where people can hang out and “work” together. So far, it’s been very unique in the world, and I don’t think anyone really understands that as well as we do.

I expect a lot of big companies will come into this space in the future and try to emulate us, but we have a pretty big advantage right now. We have a focused community and Axies has become a well-known brand.

Q8:What are its strengths and innovations in comparison?

Aleksander: The advantage of playing blockchain games is that at its core, you own the game props, the economy is open and everyone can participate in it. It’s a replication of what happens in real life.

At Axie, that’s what we do, but I don’t think all games do that.

For example, we worked with Ubisoft on one of their projects. I don’t think all of their games will be similar, but maybe some of the props will be stored in NFTs so that players can have them in the future as well — as part of their digital identity.

It’s important for us to really own something and how important that is for future users in the digital world we’re entering.

It’s not about being able to use these props in all games. But you can at least put them in your wallet as

Q9: I understand that the axie community is mainly located in North America and Europe. In the future, what are the main plans for you and your team in China and Asia? How can Chinese users get involved in the axie ecosystem?

Aleksander: Right now most of our users are in Europe/USA and Southeast Asia (mainly Philippines).

We have just started doing some small things with China to prepare for the global release next year.

Axie Infinity will be translated into Chinese in time, but it’s not ready to go mainstream yet. We have more changes to make before we can release the game.
